April is Oral Cancer
Awareness Month
Oral Cancer Awareness in the American public is low.
Approximately 42,000 people in the U.S. will be newly diagnosed with oral cancer this year.
Your dentist is often the first line of defense against oral cancer.
Early discovery is key.
While smoking and tobacco use is still a major risk factor, the fastest growing segment of oral cancer patients are young, healthy, nonsmoking individuals.
Another cause of oral cancer is exposure to the HPV virus.
In April, Broadway Smiles will be participating in this very important screening event. We will offer one day of FREE Oral Cancer screenings where you will gain valuable information about risk factors and what to look for.

With our mouth we eat and drink what sustains us. With it, we communicate ideas and feelings to the world through speech or a simple smile. It allows us to taste the nuances of a fine wine, the sweetness of a freshly picked berry or a mustard covered hot dog at the ball park. Love or passion is expressed by it when we kiss a loved one or a child. When cancer affects our mouth, it does more than take away these everyday functions, it too often takes away our lives.
